Norman Mailer, the american giant

Norman Mailer is dead on Saturday, November 10th in New York at the age of 84. He makes the headlines of the newspaper Liberation of Monday, November 12th. He leaves with the offspring a lot of novels, real testimonies of the face hidden from America.

A historian, a journalist, a writer ? Norman Mailer makes the narrative of the landmarks of the United States with a glance of historian. He obtained the Pulitzer price twice for his exceptional spirit of analysis of the events. He invents and writes stories in the style of a writer. The truth and the likely are linked in his novels.
So, his work is shared between a realism inherited from John Dos Passos and a journalistic writing close to Ernest Hemingway. It delivers the consciousness of America, the injustices of its time and the political overflowing. Provocative but composed, he was on the front of the literary scene all the life.

This man over-passionate

He is guilty of excess. Married six times, nine children, four lengths-measurements and 24 big novels. He deplored that in the United States, we destroyed the culture faster that we created it. He dreamed of something better for his dear country and for this reason, he got involved in the political fight. He made only one with the typically American megalomania. Between the boxing, the alcohol and the male chauvinism, he knew the scandals. He stabs his wife during a party but has never wished to express itself more on this skid. Himself, who could speak about everything without taboos. A complex and impressive personality, indisputable masterpieces, it is what we hold of him today. The death, the violence, the genius, obsessional topics to Mailer.

Norman Mailer or The voice of America

This man who lived a lot retranscribe in his novels the big American events. The Naked and the Dead, the first Mailer's novel, tells his war in the South Pacific. It is the advent of a furious, overexcited and watchful author who never won't stop to write. He was closely interested in the artists (Marilyn: a Biography) and the criminals who have jointly specials features according to him. Thus in The Executioner's Song, he redraws the story of the person condemned to death, Gary Gilmore. Mailer carryied out an impressive work of documentation upstream from this book. In The Fight, another one of its monumental works, Cassius Clay alias Mohammed Ali face George Foreman on the ring. He dies while his last novel had just been published. Chance ? He devotes The Castle in the Forest to suprem evil of the XXth century, Hilter. It was a book which had for a long time matured in him. The highlight of his literary creation...
